Offline captioners are post-production specialists responsible for transcribing, placing, and timing captions that are accurate and appropriate in style for prerecorded television shows.Scope
At VITAC, they work on programs that air on the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, the Travel Channel, PBS, BBC America, Sundance Channel, Lifetime, BET, and many others.
Positions are available in all three VITAC locations: Pittsburgh (Canonsburg, Pa.); Los Angeles; Washington, D.C.
Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate:
- Advanced English grammar skills
- Typing speed of > 50 words per minute
- Computer literacy, including Windows proficiency
- Ability to manage multiple daily deadlines
- Close attention to detail
- Availability for flexible scheduling ("television hours," including weekends)
We prefer a degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
