8/27-Can I quit My Day Job?

The decision to work from home is not one to take lightly. You must look at the things you may be losing-higher salary, possibly benefits (but not always) & exposure and weigh them out carefully with the pros /cons of working from home. Do you have a spouse that has an employer tha offers health insurance? Look at the areas that you will be saving (attire, work lunches, gas, childcare etc) and see how things balance out. You may find that when you don't have as much money going out, you can make it on less coming in. Often the flexibility, independent work atmosphere and increased time with the family outweigh just about everything!

If you still aren't sure, then yes, keep your dayjob and pursue a part time gig in the evenings.  Look for one where you can experiments & evaluate what is truly involved in working from home and determine if it is something you can see yourself doing.  If you are a people person, who thrives off of face to face contact, then keep your day job! There are a few jobs that requires the use of webcams and some do require conference call meetings, so just be sure to think about whether virtual interaction is enough for you.  If you are unwilling to consider (possibly) living on a lower budget, then keep your day job! If you are just looking for additional income to supplement your main job, then keep your day job and find part time wah (work at home) employment as well.
